While Los Angeles Burns, Trump Chooses Schoolyard Taunts Over Climate Action

Today, as climate-driven wildfires continued to devastate Los Angeles—claiming at least two lives, destroying or damaging hundreds of homes, and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate—President-elect Trump took to Truth Social not to offer support, but to attack Governor Newsom in the midst of this crisis.

In response, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“The wildfires ravaging Los Angeles are a devastating reminder of the growing cost of climate change and the urgent need for leaders who take the climate crisis seriously. While Californians in the fires’ path face unimaginable loss, Donald Trump is spending his day heartlessly hurling insults and baseless attacks at Governor Newsom instead of offering real solutions—or even mustering a shred of sympathy for the families suffering right now. His comments reflect a continued denial of the climate crisis that has put millions of Americans in harm’s way. Governor Newsom is stepping up to lead in a time of climate-driven crisis, while the President-elect is putting political games first.

“Trump’s anti-climate agenda would make disasters like these more frequent and severe by undoing the progress we’ve made on climate action. Americans deserve leaders who will rise to take on the challenge of the climate crisis, not those who fan the flames of disaster with inaction, denial, and complete indifference to the suffering of the people he was elected to serve.”
