Trump’s Day-One Actions: A Fossil Fuel Free-For-All That Will Hurt Working Families and Undercut American Leadership

In response to the slate of executive orders from President Donald Trump on his first day in office, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“President Trump’s first actions in office make clear who he is really here to serve—the fossil fuel CEOs and corporate billionaires who helped secure his return to power. The executive orders he signed today put fossil fuel profits over the well-being of Americans and undercut our position in the global economy. Contrary to what Trump promised, these actions will raise energy costs for American families, keeping us tethered to expensive, volatile fossil fuels. President Trump’s executive orders will be a jackpot for fossil fuel CEOs and will jack up energy prices for the rest of us.

“Together, these orders signal a reckless giveaway to Big Oil and corporate polluters at the expense of working families, frontline communities, and our economy. But many of these orders are just that—a signal. As we saw in Trump’s first term, hasty executive actions can be stopped or slowed by effective advocacy and litigation. Despite where Trump may want to take our country, we are still a nation of laws to which even his administration is beholden. Trump’s fossil fuel free-for-all jeopardizes our health, increases pollution, and takes more money out of the pockets of hardworking families. The message is clear: Donald Trump is determined to take us backward, and everyday Americans will feel the consequences. Regardless of President Trump’s irresponsible actions, we have critical work ahead in states and communities to continue to build a just, clean energy economy.”
