Passage of strong climate and clean energy package in 2023 is essential to secure federal funding, lower energy costs

LANSING, MI—Today, the Michigan Senate Energy and Environment Committee heard testimony on a suite of climate and clean energy legislation, including a bill that would transition the state to 100 percent clean energy. In response, Evergreen Action Midwest Senior Policy and Advocacy Manager Courtney Bourgoin released the following statement:

“We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Now is the time for Michigan to invest in a clean energy future. We are encouraged by the progress these bills could make toward a healthier, more sustainable, and prosperous Michigan, so we must pass these bills this fall. Delaying action even a year would forfeit $1 billion in federal funding that could be invested directly in Michigan businesses and communities—and delay energy cost savings for Michigan families and businesses. Michiganders are ready for a thriving clean energy future, and we look forward to continuing to work to lower energy costs, create quality jobs, and establish Michigan’s position as a national climate leader.”
