It’s Official: President Biden Just Took a Big Step To Pause LNG Terminals, Prioritize Those on The Frontline

In response to the Biden administration’s announcement that it is temporarily pausing pending decisions on exports of liquid natural gas (LNG) to non-Free Trade Agreement countries,  Evergreen Action Energy Transition Policy Lead Mattea Mrkusic released the following statement:

“With today’s announcement, President Biden showed us he’s listening to frontline communities and serving the country well. By temporarily pausing new liquid natural gas (LNG) export terminals and revisiting whether these massive fossil developments are in the public interest, the administration has taken a vital step towards protecting the climate and those most impacted by pollution—namely those in Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low-income communities.

“We already know that these facilities are directly harming public health in nearby communities and driving demand for fracking that accelerates the climate crisis. No fair analysis could conclude that poisoning communities and spewing climate pollution is in the public interest. We are thrilled to see the Biden administration heeding the calls of frontline advocates, and we stand in solidarity with them as they work towards a future free from deadly fossil fuel infrastructure.”

Recent polling from Data for Progress and Fossil Free Media found that a strong majority of voters support the Biden administration taking steps to limit the amount of fossil gas that America exports.
