Evergreen: Voters Decisively Choose Governors Ready to Confront Soaring Energy Costs

In response to the news that Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger have clinched decisive victories in the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial races, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Tonight, voters in New Jersey and Virginia chose leaders ready to take on soaring energy costs and the powerful interests driving them higher. Governors-elect Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger earned voters’ trust with common-sense plans to lower costs by fixing PJM’s broken system and expanding cheap, homegrown, faster-to-build clean energy. In elections defined by the skyrocketing cost of living, voters made clear they want leaders who will actually do something about it.

“They also sent a clear message about what they don’t want: the Trump-style leadership that puts corporate profiteering ahead of people. In the first major election since Trump’s return to office, voters showed they’re done paying the price for politicians who protect entrenched special interests instead of confronting the forces that make it more expensive to keep the lights on.

“We look forward to working with the Sherrill and Spanberger administrations as they move to cut costs for families and end the affordability crisis. Their victories illuminate the path forward: when leaders go big on tackling energy affordability, voters stand squarely behind them.”
