Evergreen Statement on Kigali Amendment Ratification

In response to the ratification of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, Evergreen Action Policy Lead Mattea Mrkusic released the following statement:

“Good news: the U.S. Senate has voted to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, an international environmental treaty that aims to phase down the consumption and production of dangerous climate super-pollutants, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). With today’s ratification, we’re one step closer to phasing out global use of HFCs, which could prevent additional warming by up to 0.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. Not only that, but this step will help support tens of thousands of American manufacturing jobs, according to industry estimates. This landmark ratification, which was called for in the Evergreen Action Plan, passed the Senate with a two-thirds majority and bipartisan support. This is a huge win for the American people and our planet.”
