This morning, the Pennsylvania House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee will hold its first hearing on the Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standards Act (PRESS), introduced by Rep. Danielle Friel Otten (HB 2777) to implement Gov. Josh Shapiro’s plan to increase clean energy standards in Pennsylvania.
In response, Evergreen Action Deputy State Policy Director Julia Kortrey released the following statement ahead of today’s hearing:
“This hearing is an important first step toward a major increase in clean energy deployment to power Pennsylvania’s economy and lower utility bills. Pennsylvanians have been paying the price for an outdated and fossil-fuel-driven energy grid that has increased energy costs and decreased reliability. Governor Shapiro’s plan and Rep. Otten’s legislation would significantly scale up clean energy and modernize Pennsylvania’s infrastructure to create new jobs, ensure federal investment, and lower costs for consumers and businesses.
“Thank you to Committee Chair Greg Vitali and the Shapiro administration for advancing this important discussion on how to increase clean energy deployment across Pennsylvania. This hearing continues the important momentum toward Pennsylvania’s clean energy and climate leadership. The House should pass PRESS as soon as possible.”
