Evergreen: Pennsylvania House Dems Transit Plan Reaches Across Aisle, Deserves Swift Passage

This week, the Pennsylvania House Democrats introduced HB 1788, which was reported out of the House Transportation Committee today and builds on their previous transit proposals passed in June. The updated proposal includes additional transit performance provisions, which have been proposed and prioritized by members of the Senate Republican Caucus. In response, Evergreen Senior Transportation Policy Lead Liya Rechtman released the following statement:

“We’re grateful to Governor Shapiro and House Democrats for proposing a bipartisan path forward on vital transit funding. Their new plan includes real investments to keep buses and trains running, while also incorporating transit system performance and oversight measures that Senate Republican leaders have called for. It’s a practical step to prevent service cuts, fare hikes, and daily disruptions for millions of riders. We urge the House to move quickly to pass and send it to the Senate for quick action before Pennsylvanians are left without a functioning public transit system.

“We urge both chambers to keep working quickly to finalize this critical infrastructure package, which includes bipartisan priorities and reflects meaningful compromise. Public transit is what connects people to jobs, schools, and health care—and right now, it’s on the line. Pennsylvanians are counting on their leaders to deliver, and this bill is a chance to do just that."
