Evergreen: FERC’s Draft Transmission Planning Rule Is A Vital Step To Level The Playing Field For Clean Energy

In response to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) release of a new transmission planning rule today, Evergreen Action Co-Founder and Senior Advisor Sam Ricketts released the following statement:

“Today’s announcement of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) new rulemaking for grid planning and inter-transmission comes at a critical moment for America’s power grid. Right now, there are enough clean energy project proposals in the queue to drive the US to 80% clean electricity by 2030—which would be on pace to fulfill President Biden’s clean electricity commitments—but most of them could never be connected to the grid because of an outdated regulatory environment that has stacked the deck in favor of fossil fuels. To have a shot at meeting America’s climate goals, that needs to change. This step is critical if we hope to effectively tackle the climate crisis.

“Today’s announcement is an important step to level the playing field for new clean electricity projects that will reduce costs for working families, create jobs, enhance energy security, help us meet climate goals, and ensure cleaner air and water for all. We look forward to engaging with FERC as they work to make these critical upgrades to our transmission planning system.”
